"Barriers to Shareholder Engagement - A report on cross-border voting" was mentioned in a Spanish article in El Pais.

The article focus on shareholders' participation in companies in Spain and the barriers investors have to face which continue to make cross-border voting a challenge: "Costs, logistics or different requirements and national standards make it particularly difficult for individual shareholders to exercise their responsibilities as owners".

As stressed in our report, one of these barriers is a deficiency that might seem unthinkable in transnational companies: meetings are held in the local language and are not translated into English.

The engagement of shareholders, especially institutional investors in the governance of listed companies is one of the aspects that have been concerning international organizations like the OECD and the European Commission since the outbreak of the financial crisis.

Please find the article here (in Spanish). The Spanish version of the report is also available here.
