IORP stands for Institutions for Occupational Retirement Provision. The IORP Directive is designed to create an internal market for occupational retirement provision. The original directive of 3 June 2013 (Directive 2003/41/EC) is now being reworked. The Commission submitted the recast proposal in March last year.

Only today, the MEP Rapporteur for IORP II has been selected. It is Brian Hayes (EPP; Fine Gael), a former Irish Minister of State at the Department of Finance. His task will be to analyse the IORP II project, consult with specialists in the particular field and with those who could be affected, discuss with other members within the ECON committee and recommend the political “line” to be followed. All of these considerations flow into the report that will subsequently be submitted to the ECON Committee. Based on the results of the debates, a draft report will be drawn up and later discussed and amended until it is ready to face a plenary session.

Hayes will be shadowed (i.e. the dossier will be monitored by MEPs from political groups other than that of Hayes) by three Dutch MEPs, namely Paul Tang (S&D) Sophie in ‘t Veld (ALDE) and Bas Eickhout (Greens/EFA). The other two shadowing MEPs are Ashley Fox (ECR, UK) and Teresa Rodriguez-Rubio (GUE/NGL, ES).
