Last week, following leaked minutes of a Council working group, Green MEP Sven Giegold denounced the systematic boycott by Luxemburg and the Netherlands of EU measures aimed at preventing tax dumping. EU Commission president Jean Claude Juncker and Eurogroup chair Jeroen Dijsselbloem, as former prime minister and former finance minister of the respective countries, should therefore shoulder political responsibility for this unacceptable situation and appear before the EP’s tax investigation committee to explain their roles.
With the European Commission turning a blind eye, the resulting lack of progress on crucial EU tax reforms has allowed large corporations to avoid taxation and deprived national exchequers of billions of Euros in tax revenues.
Giegold, amongst others, now calls on the European Commission and those governments that have so far refused to cooperate to reconsider and grant the European Parliament's investigation full access to all relevant documents.
