On the 7th of February 2017, Guillaume Prache, Managing Director at BETTER FINANCE, Gunnar Ek from Aktiespararna and Marc Mathieu, Secretary General of the European Federation of Employee Share Ownership will be speaking at a roundtable organized by the European Commission’s Directorate General FISMA.

The roundtable will be organized in three sessions with the first session exploring whether the current supply of investment products to retail investors meet their investment needs. Participants will discuss whether there is a need to support the creation of new retail investment products or vehicles and will examine the best practices adopted at national level to guide the supply of retail investment products. Gunnar Ek and Marc Mathieu will intervene on those questions.

The second session will focus on cost and performance transparency in retail investment. The participants will discuss how to create an environment in which newly created disclosure requirements will be fully exploited and effectively support retail investors in their investment decision choices. Legislative and policy tools such as UCITS, MiFID II, IDD and PRIIPS should be applied to support retail investors in their choices. Guillaume Prache will give his keynote speech on this matter.

The discussion will finally focus on innovation in retail investment. The development of online distribution and new distribution models developed by FIN-TECH companies could have an impact on the way retail investment products are distributed. This discussion will raise questions such as how technology could facilitate retail engagement in capital markets and how to ensure appropriate investor protection.

The Roundtable will take place on the 7th of January 2017 from 09:45 to 15:30 in DG FISMA (subject to change).
