ShareSoc was founded in 2011 as an organisation dedicated to supporting individual investors and private shareholders. It focuses on strengthening shareholder rights and corporate governance, while remaining primarily oriented toward retail investors rather than institutional actors. The organisation offers advice, education and practical support to its members, including regular newsletters, investor briefings, analysis of corporate actions and company reporting, and guidance on issues such as voting rights, executive pay, shareholder resolutions and corporate governance standards. ShareSoc also organises events, seminars and meetings where private investors can engage with experts, share experiences and enhance their understanding of investment and shareholder advocacy.
