Steven Maijoor was invited to the Financial News 20th Anniversary Awards for Excellence, 1996 - 2016 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
In his speech, Steven Maijoor stated ESMA’s key priorities for the next years;
• completing the Single Rulebook;
• moving to a ‘supervisory convergence’ or more prosaically, the ‘implementation stage’;
• looking at the actual practices of supervisors in the EU and ensure that those practices meet a minimum standard and are consistent throughout the EU;
• keeping on playing an important role in ensuring consistency in how regulation is implemented, supervised and enforced on the ground across the EU;
• monitoring the impact of ESMA’s rules on the market;and looking closely at the UK referendum because the UK is the EU’s largest capital market, as well as being a key international player, it also possesses large amounts of expertise and experience which is of enormous value to ESMA.
