The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s securities markets regulator, has published the new list of members of its Securities and Markets Stakeholder Group (SMSG). The selected individuals begin a four-year term on 1 July 2020. The SMSG will provide ESMA with advice on its policy work and must be consulted on technical standards, guidelines and recommendations.

From the 30 members making up the group, 10 represent Consumers and Users of Financial Services, of which two are from BETTER FINANCE's member organisations (Christiane Hölz, Managing Director of the Deutsche Schutzvereinigung für Wertpapierbesitz (DSW) and Martha Oberndorfer, Member of the Advisory Council of the Austrian Shareholder Association) as well as BETTER FINANCE's Managing Director, Guillaume Prache. Lubomir Christof, Advisor to the Bulgarian National Association “Active Consumers" and a longtime contributor to BETTER FINANCE’s independent research was also appointed.
