BETTER FINANCE is looking for a Projects and Office Manager to join the team in Brussels. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the drafting of project funding proposals, supporting with fundraising and helping with the closing and reporting of current BETTER FINANCE projects and managing any projects won in the future. In addition, the Projects and Office Manager will second and support the Executive Director with the management of the internal finances and administration. 

The successful candidate will be required to cooperate closely with the other members of the team and may also have the opportunity to contribute to BETTER FINANCE research and advocacy work, depending on their interest and qualifications.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Leading the drafting of project applications to potential funders (e.g. the European Union, charitable foundations or other relevant institutional funding sources that may be identified). The applications may be for funding of research work, advocacy campaigns and or events, especially related to the topics of sustainable finance, financial education or the Savings and Investment Union. 
  • Supporting with other forms of fundraising (donations, partnerships etc). 
  • Closing and finalising reporting on a currently ending project and, if necessary, managing any audits or checks of past externally funded projects. 
  • Support and back-up the Executive Director in the management of the internal finances and administration of the organisation. This may include ensuring payments and the processing and reconciliation of invoices (with the help of an external accountant), updating the internal budget when needed and presenting it to the Managing Director and Board of Directors, and liaising with the external Secretariat Social (payroll provider) on HR administration matters when required. 
  • Supporting with the application, reporting and follow-up of BETTER FINANCE annual grant programme from the European Union. 
  • Supporting in setting up BETTER FINANCE Board Meeting and General Assemblies and in communication with BETTER FINANCE’s member organisations. 
  • When needed, representing BETTER FINANCE at external meetings, conferences and workshops, including presenting projects, their results and any relevant policy recommendations or other deliverables to large audiences; 
  • When asked, attend and report on meetings at European institutions or private foundations and other relevant internal and external events. 
  • When asked supporting the research and advocacy team in their policy work

The Projects and Office Manager will report to the Managing Director. 

PROFILE/MAIN QUALIFICATIONS 

We are looking forward to welcoming an enthusiastic team player willing to take the initiative within the portfolio of assigned tasks. The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements: 

Required (minimum) qualifications: 

  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in relevant functions. 
  • Experience working on externally funded projects (funded by grants from the EU, private foundations, national governments or other similar sources). 
  • Knowledge of the general functioning of the EU institutions and their legislative process. 
  • Knowledge of at least the basics of investment and finance is required.  
  • Fluency (at least C1) in English, both written and verbal. 
  • Be committed to BETTER FINANCE’s mission. 
  • Team player and detail-oriented, with the capacity to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously. 

Preferred (additional) skills: 

  • A successful track record in fundraising, including but not limited to writing grant applications or tender proposals or securing funding from public foundations; 
  • In-depth knowledge of and strong interest in sustainable finance, adult financial education and/or investors’ & savers’ rights issues and financial regulation more broadly, would be a significant asset; 
  • Experience in office management, financial management and/or administrative work, especially in a Belgian context, would be a significant asset; 
  • Relevant experience of more than 5 years would be considered an asset. 
  • Fluency in other European languages, especially French or Dutch, would be considered an asset 
  • Good IT knowledge, particularly with Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, SharePoint, etc. 
  • Good organisation and project management skills are a must;
